SELECTIVE PROGRAMS
Facilities and other resources limit admission into selected programs. In the same way admission to the University may, from time-to-time, be capped or deferred when our capacity to serve students has been reached.
Entrance into HEALTH SCIENCE MAJORS is dependent upon adequate academic qualifications. All applicants must first be accepted into the University and take the Accuplacer before they will be considered for acceptance to a health science program. These programs of study are BACHELOR DEGREE NURSING, ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING, HEALTH CARE SERVICES ADMINISTRATION, PRACTICAL NURSING, FUNERAL SERVICE EDUCATION, HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT, PHARMACY TECHNICIAN, PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT, and SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY. Acceptance involves an evaluation of candidates in terms of academic grades, test scores, class rank, and in some instances, personal interview. An admission committee composed of the Health Sciences and Human Performance Dean and appropriate health program director reviews all applicants for these programs. Applicants must file all required credentials prior to evaluation. For more information, please visit WWW.VINU.EDU/HEALTH-SCIENCE-AND-HUMAN-PERFORMANCE.
NON-DEGREE SEEKING STUDENTS
Applicants who wish to accumulate less than 15 credit hours and do not intend to pursue a degree or certificate at 澳门足球博彩官方网址 are admitted as a non-degree seeking student by completing the NON-DEGREE SEEKING STUDENT APPLICATION.
Applicants must meet the prerequisites for the courses in which they enroll and, therefore, may be required to take 澳门足球博彩官方网址’s Accuplacer placement exam.
All students who wish to live in a residence hall and/or apply for financial aid must apply for admission and meet the admission requirements under ADMISSION FOR DEGREE-SEEKING STUDENTS, whether or not they intend to obtain a degree.
Students who have earned or will earn fifteen or more credit hours are required to apply for admission and meet the requirements under ADMISSION FOR DEGREE-SEEKING STUDENTS. Applicants who are unable to demonstrate their college readiness by obtaining a federally designated minimum score on the placement exam may appeal to the Director of Admissions to have their application and test scores reviewed.
HOME SCHOOL AND NON-TRADITIONAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Vincennes University welcomes students graduating from non-traditional high schools, such as accredited Internet high schools, schools that are not yet accredited, or from homeschooling programs.
Students completing these programs should supply the Admissions Office with a detailed transcript with graduation date. The Director of Admission may also request a brief description of the content in each course, explanation of assessment with grading scale, an overview of the curriculum and/or an academic portfolio.
Student who have not completed college level English and math will be required to take the Accuplacer placement exam and meet the registration requirements before they meet with an academic advisor to register for classes.
TRANSFER STUDENTS
Transfer applicants must meet the admission requirements under ADMISSION FOR DEGREE-SEEKING STUDENTS or by providing an official transcript (transcript mailed from another college or university directly to Vincennes University) from each college attended, showing evidence of honorable release and a minimum of 24 post-secondary college credit hours. Grades below C- may not transfer for credit.
Transfer applicants can be considered for freshman through junior status in Vincennes University's Teacher Education baccalaureate programs dependent on application review and academic credentials as outlined on the respective curriculum pages. Transfer applicants for junior status in Vincennes University's baccalaureate programs must submit official transcripts sent directly to the REGISTRAR of Vincennes University from the degree-granting institution showing a completed associate degree in one of the "feeder" programs designated within the curriculum pages of those programs. Both native and transfer applicants who are within six hours of their associate degree completion may conditionally begin their intended baccalaureate program if the remaining courses are not prerequisites for the courses to be taken in that first semester; conditionally admitted students must complete those remaining credit hours by the end of their first semester as juniors. If the courses involved are sequential and not prerequisites to courses required in the first two semesters of the program, students will have two semesters to complete the missing hours.
Entrance into all baccalaureate programs requires at least a 2.0 G.P.A. in lower division courses. Some programs, like the Teacher Education programs, will require at least a 2.75 G.P.A. for program admission.
TRANSFER CREDIT POLICIES
Credits toward completion of a degree are accepted from regionally accredited colleges.
- 澳门足球博彩官方网址 will evaluate courses in which grades of C- or higher have been earned.
- If a transfer course is the same as a 澳门足球博彩官方网址 course, but the hours differ, 澳门足球博彩官方网址 may accept hours not applied to that course as an undistributed elective.
- The division dean may authorize a waiver of a required course when more than half of the hours of the course are being accepted as undistributed elective transfer hours.
- In addition to transfer credits, students may earn advanced placement through standardized testing.
- Transfer students may earn academic credit for service school courses and military science credits.
CRITERIA FOR TRANSFER CREDIT DECISIONS
The criteria Vincennes University uses when accepting and applying transfer credit include:
- The similarity of the course content as determined by the academic department most knowledgeable about the technical content.
- How appropriate the incoming course will be in the student's major. A valid disciplinary course that has no specific Vincennes University course equivalent may be assigned undistributed elective credit in the appropriate department. Undistributed elective may apply to a major as an elective or as a major course requirement. A course may be equivalent to a Vincennes University course but it may not be applicable to the student's major.
- An on-going assessment of the success of students in subsequent courses that are related to the course being transferred to Vincennes University. This assessment becomes a measure of the quality of the incoming course.
- Vincennes University complies with guidelines of the Higher Education Transfer Alliance (HETA) which is a voluntary group organized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
